Taking it indoors...

I was certain that I would be outside last night running through the streets of Montreal, however, my husband had a meeting at the church. Which meant I had to take my exercise inside. I am not a fan of the tread mill and would much rather run in boots in 15 degree weather than run or even exercise seriously inside. We knew about the frigid cold weather here when we moved up, so we made a good investment into the treadmill - and it's been very good to me. I don't have much head room, but I haven't bumped my head yet!

How did I last 60 minutes on a treadmill? After the girls went to sleep, I put our travel DVD up on the treadmill and watched 60 minutes of Walk the Line, the story of Cash. I just loved it the first time, Phoenix does such a stellar job as Johnny Cash -it's amazing. I put the speed at 4 miles per hour and ran 2 miles at 4 and 4.5. I then left it at 4 and walked the rest of the time, running occasionally. It wasn't that bad with the movie and head phones - it was actually very enjoyable - plus it said I burned 500 calories! Woohoo!

Some people have asked how I lost 5 lbs, I wish I knew the answer! My weight was about 8 lbs over my normal weight after taking all the fertility drugs and the holidays. I think dropping those pounds will be the easiest - it's getting below my normal (when I don't exercise) weight that will be the hardest. One thing I've been doing most days of the week is to not eat past 8:00 p.m. If I can go without snacking after this time for several days, I seem to gain ground on my weight loss. I always track my calories, although, I'm not sure how effective I am at it!
How about you?
Any secrets of exercising indoors?
Or, loosing weight?
Were you as shocked as I was about Heath Ledger?

I was shocked about Heath Ledger.

I have a treadmill also, but I got it used and it has been giving me problems so I haven't been able to use it lately. I would love having one that works. For me exercising indoors is better because if I exercise outdoors I would have to take little boys with me and they can't keep up.

That picture of you is awesome. You look great! I obviously don't have the weight loss/exercise secrets but I am so impressed by those of you who just do it. 60 minutes is impressive!

I was shocked about Heath Ledger.

i wish i could become friends with the treadmill. we have a very good one here at the hotel, but i'm much happier out in the cold/rain/heat/humidity - whatever gets thrown my way.

Man I wish I looked as good as you do on that treadmill. I always look dreadful (but I guess an extra 10 pounds on my tummy don't help). I'm the same way, I'd rather be out in the crazy extremes than inside on a treadmill, but I do find that I can run longer without stops on a treadmill (love the flat surface!).

I was incredibly shocked to hear about Heath Ledger, he was a great talent. I feel horribly for his family, especially his little girl who will grow up without him around.

I'm so proud of you, o Treadmill Diva. I have a love/hate relationship with the treadmill. I think you've hit the secret of indoor running: MOVIES!!!

I am seriously envious of your thighs. No cheese! If I didn't love you, I'd hate you ;)

What is your daily exercise meme? Explain! It looks interesting.

Good job! I have never minded the treadmill it gets so hot here in the summer, that there isn't much time for running outdoors, unless it is in the wee hours of the morning! Great idea on putting Walk the Line in. I loved that movie!

I think if I had had a protable DVD when we still had the treadmill, I just might have been more motivated! You go girl! :D

You are a wonder woman if you prefer to run in boots! That would be a huge deterrent for me. You look great on your treadmill. I laughed at your comment about hitting your head.

I've meant to respond to a comment of yours on my blog from ages ago (I'm behind in my blog reading), but I was excited to hear that you will be here in March, and would love to meet up with you!

Oh the dreaded treadmill. I would much rather run outside, ok when I could run. The longest I ever got on a treadmill was an hour too. That was a long hour! :)
My secret to working out indoors: put on my exercise clothes as soon as I get up. Then I have to workout or take them off and admit defeat. Weight loss: metabolism. Eat small meals every 2 to 3 hours to keep your metabolism going.
Heath Ledger? Shocked. So much so that I posted about it. Crazy and so sad.

I will admit and I have been sooo sad about Heath. I guess mainly for his daughter. So sad and way too young.

I LOVE your picture of you running! YOu look fantastic. Oh, how I need to keep moving. I also try not to eat past 8 or 7:30. It is hard when you have a hubby constantly trying to get you to eat ice cream with him after the kids go to bed! Keep up the awesome work.

I'm so proud of you Michelle! The treadmill can get quite boring, especially when it's at home...near a comfy couch! 60 minutes is so good, too! Nice work on losing 5 lbs. The hardest part is getting started and the night eating thing is huge for me too! It's too easy to ingest 500+ calories eating icecream, or cookies, or chips. Keep up the good work! What a fabulous way to take on 2008!!!!

Oh, and I am so saddened by the death of Heath Ledger. Tragic.

Great job Michelle--for your weight loss (Whee!!) and staying on that crazy treadmill for 60 minutes (Whoa!)

I agree they are good to have when you really need them, but I feel like such a hamster. Anyway, way to go!!!

I am a big nighttime eater--and of the worst things--sweets!

I'm confused...but it's v.late here...how did you take that picture?? You look super-fit in it, anyway. Blimey, it's all a bit technical for me though! All those stats! I'm rubbish with numbers, though...

I think your not eating past a certain time is good too. I fall foul of that, easily.

Heath Ledger. His name was familiar to me, but I couldn't quite place him. As the story has unfolded it all looks like a tragic, tragic accident. What a terrible loss for his little girl. She will never really remember him. I hope, however, this incident brings to attention the whole 'underground' world of prescription drugs and dependency on them.
