Dirt, worms, and more worms...

And I thought Nini was simply brushing her teeth. This is what you get when you assume the water that's running in the bathroom is your daughter brushing her teeth, not trying to find her worm she proudly found yesterday, and flood him out of his container. She found it in less than it's original size and was curious as to why it wasn't moving. I mentioned that it may be playing possum because it wants to go outside in our backyard - back to his home. She was very proud of herself for putting it back and that it had played possum to do it.

I guess it was inevitable that my beautiful sweet little Nini, who is a self-proclaimed tomboy would eventually be very interested in dirt and all the pesky little things that live in it! The girls are loving the outdoors, their yard, - and dirt - or mud as it has been wet on and off this past week. We had a little friend come over this afternoon to play with the girls while his mom is busy packing up their home. They were in heaven to put it mildly! At gymnastics, the little friend played with other little brothers of the girls who are taking gymnastics. His mom and dad picked him up around 6:30 and then I fixed a very fancy meal of pb & j for dinner for the girls.
While they were playing I had to pick up off our deck a brand new baby bird that must have fallen out of it's nest. I'm not sure where the nest was, but the poor thing wasn't moving. It wasn't a fun moment to have to dispose of it and keep the whole incident hidden from three very active children. It was done and I hope we don't have anymore.

On brighter and less dismal news -this morning was so awesome -I ran three miles and decided to hop on my bike and put another 30 minutes onto my exercise time. It felt great and I am going to continue this throughout the week to see if I can put this into my exercise routine.
Does your child like to collect insects?
Is the summer weather motivating you to exercise?

I found your blog through etadventures. When I saw the cute kid's clip-art I thought,"that looks like The Friend"--sure enough. We haven't been to the Montreal Temple, but we have been to the Cardsten Temple-it was beautiful. My good friend used to live in New Hampshire. We visited 5 years ago, and went to Quebec,Canada and also to Sharon, Vermont. My husband and I thought it would be a great place to go on a mission someday. It was so beautiful and peaceful. Come visit my blog...it will be fun to make a new friend.

So sad about the baby bird. I'm glad you were able to dispose of it without the kids seeing it. That would have been awful.

worms are a wonderful thing. we're having a dirt, mud, worms, bugs, caterpillars, screaming at the top of your lungs kind of day today!

Ahh...the fasination with bugs. All too familiar. The boys used to collect them and Danica is intreged also. I'll never forget it when we were somehow nominated to bugsit 'walking sticks' during the Xmas break. One morning I woke up to a walking stick on my chest and the boys giggling. I can see now how that would have been funny to them. Not so much at the time however.

We are breaking sod in our backyard to put in some flowers and a garden this year, and this week I was out digging, and the kids wanted to help. I'm all for that, so they grabbed their sandbox shovels and started digging the soil I'd already turned over. Aimee found a monster earthworm. Huge. She wanted to watch it wiggle, but didn't want to touch it. Carter had no such reservations and immediately picked it up and carried it around. I am glad I was there so I wasn't surprised by a sinkful of mud like you were! Natural curiosity is a wonderful thing.

PS: I love that yellow pillow picture you have on your crochet garden sidebar. Beautiful!

YES! All my girls love bugs, worms, incects, reptiles, whatever! At 1st I hought it was wierd but I got used to it. They have a cup with a broken bird egg in it in their room right now. It's covered with plastic wrap. They would be heart broken if I said they had to throw it away. So it will sit there for a week and then slowly move it's way out side and when they have forgotten about it. I will toss it. It's good they love all of gods creatures right.

It is all so familiar!!! Both Eloise and Breanna (the two youngest) loved playing in the dirt, making potions and spells!! I used to come home and find containers of their homemade potions and - NO MUM YOU CANT THROW THAT AWAY. And BUGS they love bugs!!! Eloise (now 14) used to actually eat dirt with a spoon in the backyard!!! And let me tell you she is the healthiest one of the lot - obviously built up a great immune system. Have a great weekend.

Poor baby bird. Never fun!

Congrats on all of your hard workouts! It has to become a joy to really stick! I hope it's becoming a joy!
