Day 8: Fort Ticonderoga

Fort Ticonderoga rounded out our last stop in our road trip and the start of a more relaxing time for our family - or so we thought! We headed to the Fort for the 250th anniversary and re-enactment ceremony. For those of you who have been commenting or lurking on my blog since last year, you might remember this post about the 249th ceremony. We headed back this year in hopes of the same great time...

The marketing team for this year must have done a great job at getting the word out, as the crowds must have doubled. They moved the re-enactment to a different part of the fort, making it a little less enjoyable for those who got stuck waiting in line and having to walk a mile into the fort (like us.)

The parking crew were freaking out that they did not have spaces to put everyone - they really weren't expecting so many people. Despite the throngs of people we did enjoy about 20 minutes of the battle scenes and taking photos of the people participating.

This was one of the Indians dressed shall we say modestly, most were clad any a lot less! We were having a great time until the rain started. It was cloudy when we arrived, so I brought my umbrella; which Sassy ended up having to hold because we put the girls on our shoulders so they could see over the crowds. The sprinkles turned into rain and Sassy had disappeared. We were getting wet, but their was still hope that it would stop before it got too bad. I looked for Sassy everywhere until finally I found her sitting in this...

..she was, of course, sitting out of the rain holding the umbrella. This photo was taken after we let the girls try to get dry while we stood out with the "missing" umbrella.

The rain from hear became a down poor causing the road into the fort to become more of a stream. We tried to view the village and encampment area but we were soaked - completely. Sassy had a hard time coming back to the car - so the girls and I trudged forward through the down pour. Passing me at one time was a golf cart with two men and a dog? No one thought to pick up a mother with her two five year old daughters? Hello?! Anyway, I guess it wouldn't have been worth it since we arrived at our parking destination at the same time. Sassy and Craig followed behind about 10 minutes later.

Every inch of them was completely soaked - completely! I made them take their clothes off and put blankets over them for the ride home - their was no way I was going to have them ride home with their wet clothes.
This is our self-portrait, completely soaked! We changed at the cabin and headed up to Montreal to pick the dogs up for our week in NY. It was a fun day and a fun adventure! Their were times we were walking through six inches of water! Crazy!

I love how you chronicled this by minutes. Sounds like you all are having lots on fun on summer vacation time. You've gotten some great snapshots. I love your vacation sidebar too. How did you do that? I didn't know you could link pictures to posts (unless you used another website features).
