I've saved about 10 different shirts the girls used to wear when they were younger. Often times their are so many great memories in these clothes that it's really hard to scrap them when it isn't justified to give them to someone else. Whether they are worn or too stained, I still couldn't find it in my heart to trash them. So I saved them, and saved them, and saved them - until I figured I might want to do something with them...
Idea #1: Pocket Pillow Cases
I don't know about your kids, but mine love to hide little toys under their pillows. Why not give them a place to store them - make a pocket pillow. Take a pillow case of any color sew ribbon around the outside for decoration. Cut out an old favorite shirt decal and sew it on top of a $1 store wash cloth. Cut the edges off of the wash cloth and hem one side. Sew the wash cloth with decal on three sides leaving the top open so that it can be used as a pocket to keep their treasures!
Summer 2005: reuse them...
Idea #2: Felt photo folders.
I didn't want to get rid of these cute lady bug shirts. They were just too cute, but the shirts were stained - they're white for heaven's sake! My girls love to keep little drawings and pieces of paper that mean nothing to me, but for some reason they are attached. I wanted a place for them to put these things. I stitched the ladybug onto a 6x6 scrap piece of felt and ribbon in the center of the fold. Use them to hold paper, photos, or as a sweet decoration in their room.
There are endless possibilities when reusing the decals and photos off of old shirts: frame it, create another t-shirt, put it on a quilt, a jacket, or on pajamas. I have more old t-shirt creations coming soon!
How do you reuse these outgrown shirts?

I have never seen such cuteness out of a shirt. I love this idea. I haven't made anything out of one, but I might have to cut up a few and see where it takes me. Great ideas in here Michelle.
Your mind works on a different level. Amazing. I have never thought of making anything out of their old clothes. The pocket pillows are brilliant.
I have never seen those .... What a great idea...

Michelle, I am just like you, I could never just get rid of my kid's clothing. Especially the ones I had made for them. You are so clever and creative, what a blessing for your two little sweethearts.
Another great idea. It is hard to get rid of their cute little stuff but I don't have the foresight to think of something useful like this. Really cute.
cute ideas...I'm with the rest of the group. I generally pack them away and pass them on to someone else. I think I might have to hold onto a couple.
i have saved all of katherine's portrait clothing and have either given away or sold the rest. however, i have saved flannel pj's that have belonged to both of us thinking one day i might make something with them...
michelle the things you have crafted are just plain awesome. you are such a good and thoughtful mother to your beautiful little girls!!!
love,

I never thought to reuse an old shirt. I guess I always donate it. I'll have to start getting creative.
I've only used old t-shirts for a quilt a while ago, but that is a great idea! I just recently noticed my boys love the pockets on their bed quilts. Cute!
