Rolfe and the Squirrel.

Sometimes heroes come in very small and hairy packages! This is Rolfe, one of two very spoiled little Dasshunds that are part of our family. I had let Rolfe outside and left the backyard door open slightly so that he could return while I was upstairs tending to something that Elise was working on. I hear Rolfe's tapping feet downstairs, so I knew he had come back inside. A couple of minutes later I here his feet running, glass falling over, and a lot of other strange noises. I knew it had to be something other than our dogs inside and walked cautiously downstairs leaving Elise in the office with the door closed. We were the only ones home - and so it was up to me to find out "what" was downstairs.

I was hoping that it wasn't a skunk which has plagued our neighborhood this summer. I peak into the living room to see Rolfe standing at attention in front of our love seat. I could hear something breathing hard under the couch. Long story short, Rolfe had cornered the animal underneath the couch. Fortunately it was a squirrel, so I put my best foot forward and grabbed my long handled broom and the Ottoman next to the couch. After 15 minutes of me yelling "get out""eeek", Rolfe and I had managed to get the squirrel out of our house. I was reminded of how much I appreciate our little dogs and that they aren't just pooping and hungry all the time! Thanks Rolfe!

Do you have a special pet?
Can we see a photo?
Any special stories?

We are petless, but I sure could have used one to get the dead bird off my deck yesterday. Yuck. I really admire people who love animals and consider them part of the family. Sometimes I think something is wrong with me because I am unable to feel that way towards an animal. Rolfe sounds like a hero.

Yeah Rolfe! Good job saving your Mama.
I love your "eeek." Very realistic!
I'm glad you're safe from the squirrel

We used to have next door neighbors who had a cute little daschound and John the husband told me that they had originally been bred to hunt out small vermin in their tunnels. It sounds like little Rolph is doing what comes natural. Tell him that Susan thinks he is a very valiant and noble dog.

Anyone who knows me knows that my little Jake is my love. I wasn't an animal lover until him...now I'm a passionate dog owner.

My little Jakester's picture is my banner. He is such a great dog and we love him to death!

Ahh...what a sweet little story. Those 2 dogs are so precious & adorable. And who knew that Rolfe was also a guard dog.

Oh my gosh! That is absolutely hilarious. I panicked a few weeks ago trying to get a bird to fly out of my basement. I can only imagine what it was like to remove a squirrel!

So cute and very smart. I have a little dog. We love him too. I didn't think I could really get into a pet like that, but we really enjoy him.

He plays hide and go seek for ever. The missionaries come to our house just to play that with him :)

Way to go Rolfe.

You are one brave woman Michelle, I don't think I wwould have handled a squirrel in the house as well as you did.

Love
Elise

Have you read the children's book Pretzel? It's authored by the same person who did Curious George and is about a Dachund named Pretzel. Griffin loves that book.
