We headed to Acorn Cottage this weekend to attempt our own sugaring off (click here for more information). We assumed we wouldn't get much as we only had 10 maple trees on our property. The weather has to be below freezing at night and warm above freezing during the day to allow the sap to run out of the spouts in the trees - into the buckets. It has been great weather for this until the weekend we picked to go down - and it was above 40 all weekend! We managed about 8 oz of sap - on a weekend with the right weather -we would get a lot more. When you collect the sap, it needs to be boiled for the sap to turn into "Maple Syrup" - as you can see by the photos - we didn't have enough. -But it was fun all the same!
Have you ever been to a Sugaring Off?
