Cottage Vacation.

Listening to a doctor say "take it easy", "do not bend over", "do not load or wash dishes", "do not do laundry" -one would assume that the person hearing it just might jump for joy and do a little hurray dance. While listing these things in the doctor's office, I could visually see my dream of trudging 10 hours by mini-van to PEI again, vanish. I pick this big belly momma up (my new nickname coined by me) and I took myself back home to the couch to contemplate just how we were going to enjoy this summer.

We figured that wherever we went a bed and couch had to be handy. An overnight train to PEI? Considered, but optimally, there is no way I wouldn't want to do, do, do when we arrived. Our next choice we knew would accommodate the relaxing type vacation I needed and Acorn Cottage was the perfect fit. What can one family do in one place for two weeks....
Craig loves to build and never gets a chance too since we rent and he works in an office that wouldn't take kindly to bringing a hammer and nails to work. His first project was a treehouse for the girls. He designed it and built it all by himself...

The treehouse is also equipped with a table and chairs built by Craig and his next project is to put a zip-line in for the girls to use. What a man I have!

If the girls became bored with the treehouse, or running through the sprinklers (when it wasn't raining), we brought out the games. First up was horseshoe and then we moved on to more...reptile pursuits...

This is Stanley. One of a few frogs that made it's way into this make-shift frog catcher that Craig put together for the girls. We plan to make several of them and give to the girl's cousins when they arrive in a week.

Just in case you missed Stanley - here's another photo of him, her? (He/She was released - without harm!)

Our days filled with sun, were few. We enjoyed those days that we had no rain and celebrated those with Sun! I think sun included a total of four days.

I love this photo of the girls trying to roast these hot dogs. It seems that the roasting stick was a bit heavy for them...they quickly handed it to Craig to finish. We roasted marshmallows and devoured a few dozen smores (not each) and even Cici, who seems to be deathly afraid of marshmallow goo, had a little smore herself.

Craig and I love archery and had fun putting this hobby together during the year we had to wait for our adoption to go through. We still have the bows and arrows and when we can we get them out and enjoy some target practice. We felt it was time for the girls to get in on the fun, purchasing two bows and six arrows each for the girls. They caught on pretty darn quick as you can see...I for see a fun family hobby!

When we weren't at the cabin we took the ferry over to Vermont and enjoyed some antique shopping, ice cream, and a food. We couldn't do this much, as it required more driving than I'm really supposed to be allowed. I watched myself carefully though and think that I took it pretty easy.We also took a few excursions closer to our cabin, finding this heavenly place to have a picnic. The girls made close playmates with a boy and girl their age visiting from Poland and I enjoyed finishing several naps and a crossword puzzle. Isn't heavenly!?

One of our Vermont excursions was to Knight's Point State Park fireworks. It was a cloudy chilly day, but we braved it anyway. The girl's strolled on the lake's beach and Nini created this wonderful Inukshuk! She was determined to wear that cap backwards too, oh, my little cutie!

I cannot revisit the temptation to dress them up for the 4th (although these fireworks were on the 3rd), perhaps it patriotic, or just one more chance to go shopping and have them match like they did when they were babies.

We invited other ex-pats from Montreal to join us and were pleased to have Natalie and her family show up. By the time the fireworks were released, we were completely drenched, happy to have come, but grateful to get home and out of the rain. Thanks for taking this photo Natalie - I need our self portrait photo!
We are back from our fun and hope to enjoy a happy summer in Montreal. My sister Jenn at halffulllife will be joining me for two and half weeks - yeah! We will have six kids in the house - a good practice for when the twins are born. My parents come in August! I see the doctor on Wednesday and will see if I can continue my modified bedrest!

It just goes to show that fun can still be had, despite the rain. The fireworks were awesome and we were so glad to get to visit, even a little bit. I'll send the self portrait your way, ASAP. I was also thinking that we should get together again soon, since our days here may be numbered and you've got lots of visitors coming. Your house, I'll bring dinner? Just say when.

I've been so neglectful of blogs. I'm sorry my friend. But I was happy to find that you've had a good summer holiday despite your need to take it easy. I love, love, love Acorn Cottage. The treehouse is amazing, and a zipline sounds so great. You have a great man, indeed.

How are you doing? Let us know what the doctor says. and I forget - what is your due date?
