When to give-up your me time.

What exactly is me time between us moms?  Is it the honor of going to the grocery store on our own – to shop for the family?  Doing laundry without children in the room?  Doing finances during naptime?  Me time 95% of this time is doing something for my family.  Normally I don't mind.  Do you?  It's a part of who I am right now and what needs to be.  But, sometimes mama (me) needs a little real me time.  And so I tried it today.  On my way home from Hawk's doctor appointment, I ran into Subway to get my favorite sub and headed home.  I put the boys to bed, popped on some TV, and hoped to read a library book called Homemade Marketplace....

But, guilt set in.  I had a messy office that needed organinzing.  So I ate my sandwich watched a little TV and hoped to finish the office and still find some of that me time...

Enter, Mr. T.  He had dutifully fallen asleep at noon while his brother wailed and played in his crib for an hour and a half.  He was awoke by Hawk and although he went to sleep for a little more - he was wide awake when I went to check on them.  Hawk was asleep and I pulled little T out of his crib.  My time had officially ended, but I had something better in mind.

My me time became a much beloved play date with my first little boy Mr. T.   Moments like these do not come along very often, moms with twins - you know what I mean!  Well, lets be honest, all moms know what I mean.

We got to work making homemade whole wheat pizza crust for our dinner.  We had a blast getting messy together.  He spend most of the time giggling at the sound of the mixer and putting flour in his mouth and then gagging - and laughing.  At the end of the day what's important to me is being their for my kids.  I get enough time here and there that can equal as time for myself - for now!

We ended our little date with a kiss!

Mommy Blindness.

I have had a strong case of mommy blindness.  Poor Mr. Hawk, who is now fast approaching 14 months, has been parading himself around in this way-to-small-for-him jacket.  So, why do I still put him in this five-month-old jacket and the jeans he wore when he was crawling?!     The jacket is one of my favorites, but unfortunately sized at 6-9 months old.  He and Mr. T used to wear it often and I have several baby photos of them in it too. It was this recent photo of Hawk in it that forced me to realize my bout of mommy blindness.  My tiny baby is now a toddler - officially.

Here are 5 things about my little Hawk that you have to know:

1.  Our family has now officially given him a different nickname:  Spiceman.  He is infatuated with all those little containers of spices, which he can easily reach as they are in in one of my bottom kitchen cabinets.  I have a rubber band around the cabinet - but it is often left off.  He will then, open the cupboard and start throwing out all the spices - until he gets to the little container of pumpkin spice!  Which he will carry around with him.
2.  He is a binky man or pacifier man.
3.  He likes to follow behind his brother and push him or pat him to go faster.
4.  He has the cutest smile and laugh-you ever did see!
5.  He loves to play catch.

You know you are a mom when...

...when the crust you cut off your children's
sandwich becomes your lunch.

Oh the guilt and waste I feel when cutting the crust off my kid's sandwiches and toast. So, I have taken to eating it as part of my breakfast or lunch. Or, I slyly put the kids' bologna sandwiches with the crust in their lunches, full knowing that the likelihood of them eating the crust is well, none. Somehow, when I say that they "have to eat the crust", I still end up with a crust graveyard. Oh the humanity!

Do you cut the crust?
Do you feel guilty?
Is this your lunch or breakfast?
