Little Blue Truck Playset.

Hawk with his Little Blue Truck set!

Our home has been brimming with sounds from Alice Schertle's children's book Little Blue Truck.  Mr. T and Hawk are big fans!  For Christmas, I took a large round decoupage shirt box and began painting it copying Jill McElmurry's gorgeous Illustrations.  I didn't come close to her work - but at least at this age - it didn't really matter to the boys!  Craig went about finding a blue truck and dump truck and animals to put in the box.  We found all of the animals, unfortunately - I couldn't find them all for this photo!

I loved that everything that recreates this book is contained within the box.  Around the outside of the box I painted the words from the first page Horn went beep.  Engine purred.  Friendliest sound you ever heard!  It would be fun to see what other books we could put together.

I am hoping that this will be something the boys can keep and pass on to their children.  Let's hope that it makes it that far!

Have you heard of this book?
What do you think of it?
What is your favorite animal children's book?

Where did you find the toy Blue Trucks?

Same question. Where did you find the toy trucks? My boy sprung it on us when visitng Santa. He said, "I want a yittle boo tuck." He's 2. It's amazing how difficult it is to find something so simple.

So sorry for my absence and late replies to your questions about the trucks. While I painted the box, my husband scoured the internet for something resembling the "little blue truck" - unfortunately whatever link he used is long gone from our internet history. However, using the search criteria "die cast toy blue truck" give you a few options. The "blue truck" we purchased was approximately 14.99 and has since lost it's wheels (not for little boy use!) The dump trucks and animals we found easily at hobby shops and hardware stores. Thanks for your questions and I hope this helps a little!

Thanks,
MIchelle :)

Thank you so much for this idea. Just splurged a little bit on ebay for the truck, dump truck and farm animals. Not a painter but I'm thinking maybe I could decoupage a box. Great idea!
