Yesterday, I had planned to go to a matinee of the The Nanny Diaries. When I went to my car to drive to the theatre I noticed that the car had been left unlocked. I got in and closed a center console that I don't remember opening. When I looked over at the glove box that was open, I realized that our passports that we tend to leave in the glove box so that we can have easy access to them, were gone.
Yikes! I knew that I hadn't put them anywhere else and they indeed had been stolen. I call Craig and we make a list of things we need to do: Call the US consulate for a missing passport, make a police report at the station, call about our Visa's and get ready for a long day of getting everyone's passport replaced. I drive to the police station at around 1:00 p.m. and make the report at 4:00 p.m., the station calls and says they found our passports! I asked where they found them, and their repsonse was on the ground next to our house. I am positive I saw the officer and woman that found them, because when I left the house to pick the girls up from school, I saw them three houses down rifling in some low-growing bushes. I didn't think twice about it and kept walking the other direction. The passports were wet, but the visa's and Craig's passport (which he needed next Sunday) were all in good shape.
The lesson I learned: Lock my car, and keep our passports inside the house.

Glad they found them.. what a blessing that sounds like it could have been quite a headache!
What a mess that would have been to get everything replaced. I am so glad they were found!!
I am so relieved for you that it ended well! I accidently left the garage door up overnight a few weeks ago and someone came and rummaged through our car as well. I have a habit of leaving my purse in the car, but fortunately happened to take it in that night. They took nothing! It's a relief, but isn't it kind of creepy that someone was in your "stuff"?
Hey, another great new look for your blog! I have no idea how to alter the way my blog looks, so it will probably be poka-dots until the end of time. This looks great though. Nice job.
Also, big relief on the passports! What a mess that would have been. When Dirk and I were newlyweds our little car was broken into. We didn't own much, so there wasn't really anything in there to steal. So the theif took the change out of the beverage holder. We were out about $2 in parking meter money. Sheesh!
Oh Michelle i am so glad they found them. Nothing else was stolen???
WEIRD! What a scary thing! I'm glad it worked out!!!
Phew...I'm glad that it all turned out ok. I hate that pit of your stomach unresolved feeling. And having to do all the work...at least it was all found!
What a relief!
Wow, what a scare to nearly lose them--I guess those are pretty nasty to lose!
wow!!!!!!!! that is scary and what a relief it must have been.
dang, why do people have to be so rude-- locked or unlocked it is YOUR CAR not theirs to take.
What a scary thing to think is lost! Ack. I'm so glad they were found. That is really amazing, actually!
So did they steal them out of the car then show up at your house? I am glad nothing was stolen from your house.
Wow- so lucky to have found them!
