My girls are having the time of their lives! Our little family has been very isolated from extended family and we are all grateful to be having so much fun while Craig is traveling! It's quite the treat! I've missed reading every one's blog and have missed your comments.
The flight from Montreal to Chicago was horrific for me. About 20 minutes into the flight, I got the headache of my life. The plane had two seats on each side, so the girls had to sit separate from me. Leaning over to help them constantly and the turbulence was too much to handle! I have always thought I was a seasoned traveler, and I know this is being a bit dramatic, but I thought for certain I was going to die! Of course, hitting my head on the overhead storage didn't help. By the time we were on our 2nd leg of the trip, my headache had subsided to a dull pain, thanks to excedrin purchased at the newspaper stand. We arrived in Houston around 8:30 p.m. and my sister was waiting for us! It was great! I have taken lots of pictures which I would love to share with you next week.

Living in Montreal has been such a great experience and we will continue to get the most out of it that we can. Despite my affection for Montreal, it was nice to be back in the states again.
What have I missed about living in the states?
#1. Soda with ice. I always ask for a extra ice in Montreal, which means if I'm lucky, I'll get four ice cubes instead of two! I can't stand a warm d. coke - it's just not right!
#2. Trucks. Yes there are trucks in Montreal, but very few and usually for industrial use. It's just nice sometimes to see people driving those big pick-up trucks!
#3. English. Montreal is french speaking and English speaking. Everything in Quebec is either labeled or said in French, with English labeled after it or spoken after it. You just want them to pick a language - but alas, lucky for me, they do speak English in the part of Montreal I live in.
#4. Green. I have enjoyed seeing green and not brown! Winter had finally left us in Montreal, leaving us just as we were ready to make our trip. I've seen way too much white and brown and was thankful for all the green that we see around us.
#5. Minus 15% tax. Everything I purchase in Quebec has a 15% tax added to it. Adding 15% to a $100 Costco bill defeats the purpose of going to Costco or hitting a sale.
#6. Shopping. I just love American Malls! They're great, clean, and full of all the things I love.Where have I shopped? Anthropologie(got some cute tops), Gymboree (they had really cute sweaters for $11.99).
#7. Craft Stores. Thanks to Walmart, I've not been without the ability to continue crafting. However, it is always nice to venture outside and find a real craft store. I haven't succeeded in finding one in Montreal other than Walmart, but thanks to Hobby Lobby a craft store here in Texas, I was able to restock some of my scrapbook supplies!
#8. Eating. Don't get me wrong, I've been to some great places in Montreal from Indian to Vietnamese to great smoked meat sandwiches. Sometimes it's nice to sit down at a kid friendly restaurant and eat in a cozy comfortable environment. My brother-in-law, is a manager at Chili's, which in my opinion has the best diet coke - ever! I've also missed a really good hamburger, lucky for me they have a P.O.'s Hamburger place less than a mile away. Great hamburgers!
#9 US Post Office. I have missed being able to send a letter for under 50 cents. I have also missed the priority shipping that is soooooo cheap compared to rates through the Canadian post. Thanks to the post office in the US, I was able to get out some good mail today!
Thankfully all of the things I miss revolve on the frivolous things of life. We always say to each other "no matter where we are living, as long as we are together, we are a happy family"! It's good to know we can live without these small comfort making things and still be happy :-)

I'm glad you're having a great time. The flight sounds like it was rough but I'm glad you made it through okay. I can understand your "things I miss" list. Ice water is definitely something I'm looking forward to. We just don't get any ice. Period. I guess you could get it, but you'd probably pay for it later because who knows how clean it is! Have a great rest of your trip!
So sorry aboyt your flight. I am glad you are having such a wonderful time. Why don't they give you ice? I would go crazy. I could never drink a hot pop!! Have a great day :)
There's nothing like the good old USA. Glad that you are having such a fun time with your sister. Sounds like you are having a fun time shopping and eating, my favorite two things to do on vacation too.
hi michelle: sorry the plane ride was rough. i can relate. one time when i traveled alone (only adult) with our two toddlers (one was still in diapers and on formula), they wouldn't sleep (it was a red eye) and the baby kept throwing up. by the end of the flights, then i threw up, too. it was the worst, but we got through it. the flight attendants felt so sorry for me :)
glad you got there okay. have a blast :) kathleen
ps. i drive a big p/u truck and love to always drive a truck. we have trucks everywhere here in alaska. trucks are like the alaskan cadillac.
pss. one more, i loved your quote so much "I believe that everyone who shares their story can give hope and understanding to another," that i quoted it in my 21apr (my conversion to the Gospel) post. thanks :)
Barb - thanks for the tip about the ice! Michelle :-)
Jenny - Oh yeah! I stocked-up big time! Thanks for the well wishes!
Michelle
It's nice that the things you miss are mostly just 'little things'. How much harder it is to miss your extended family. I'm glad you got some precious time with your sister. I agree, it must've done the girls no end of good to mix with family for a while. Hope you don't have to wait too long for your next meet-up!
