Friday's bring a sort of traditional cheer, relief, and excitment for lazier less structured days ahead. Even as an adult, one can appreciate a Friday evening, knowing the next morning won't be like the five previous. It's been a tradition of mine to see Friday as a day of watching a movie I want during the day, eating out, and saving exercises for Saturday. I love it because it helps me sail into the weekend with a sort of vacation-like zeal. Things still need to be done, appointments kept, and children cared for, but the way in which all are accomplished, for me, feels less stressful.
Yet this Friday, I had still been reeling from my week on my own, the girl's fighting, and one of my girls persistent tantrums. I also still find myself amidst rooms in disarray for the sake of making it more organized. I just couldn't muster that same C'est La Vie relaxed Friday feeling and wondered what it would take to change my attitude. One of my disorganized rooms is the office, and as I found myself on the office floor sorting paperwork and deciding how to make it more organized; I saw a silver gift bag on the floor. I remembered packing it once earlier in March for a day trip we took. Among the contents were maps and things we collected along our drive.
As I picked it up for a closer look, I noticed a long brown rectangular shaped wrapper sitting at the bottom of the bay. I quickly deduced that I had hit the mother load! A candy bar, oh, could it be? My Friday spirit had returned so instantaneously that I shrugged off my usually ghastly abhorrence to eating candy bars and said "It's Friday, why not!". Dropping my grumpy attitude and the bag, I headed downstairs, grabbed a diet coke, and walked outside. For the next 20 minutes, the girls played with water outside and I ate the Mars Candy Bar, sipped my diet coke, and watched the girls play.
Isn't this how traditions are born? Something done once is practiced over and over again because: it was fun, it brought your family closer together, or your parent's did it. After contemplating my Fridays, I realized that it should be a tradition to see everyday in the same light-hearted way. Life is busy, but why can't we stop and eat a candy bar, smell the roses, or enjoy the outdoors without that weekday guilt.
What are your traditions for Friday? The Weekend?
I enjoyed writing this and have submitted it to Scribbit's Write Away Contest. Two Scribbit Links in one week!

Michelle, I hope you have a happy weekend! I too found a candy bar..a Milkey Way! I have a tad of PMS, and it totally helped me out! :)
I'm glad the surprise treat helped! It usually works for me, and the Diet Coke totally off sets any calories in the candy!
I'm glad you found your Friday spirit again. They should be fun and without guilt. Enjoy your weekend. Glad your hubby is returning.
My Friday tradition is that it's my cleaning day: changing sheets, washing, ironing, mopping, watering plants, etc. I'm usually not showered until noon :)
Then I get a treat by going out with my husband.
I dont' cook on Friday nights. It's my way of saying: take me out for dinner or eat cereal!
I have one waiting for me in the freezer as a Diet Coke sitting right by my side. When in doubt endulge right? Hope you have a great night!
I normally watch a movie on Friday's as well. It's my FAVORITE day of the week.
