Crochet Belts, Summer Spinner, and Good Mail!

I am close to posting the instructions on my crochet blog on how to make these flowers. A moment of inspiration hit me while watching TV last week - Crochet belts. They turned out adorably cute! The color scheme is brown, pink, and white (the colors that look black are really brown. Nini modeled them for me - look below!

This summer I felt like the girls and I needed a little extra boost to get out of our four walls and see the city - especially when Craig is out of town. To help us along I made this summer spinner, filled with things to do around town, at home, and even venturing outside of Montreal. If there are no appointments or places we need to be, we'll work out what we want to do by spinning this arrow three times - one for each of us. We talk about what sounds the best and what would work in our schedule and we go and do it. For instance, the other two options would take too long for the amount of free time we had - so we picked one of the spins which was going to the movie theatre. Once we do that activity it's out for at least that week, so we can pick other things and do lots of things during the summer.

Here's what I did to make this Summer Spinner!

1. Cut out a large piece of cardboard - I chose to cut it in a square.
2. Decorate the cardboard - I decided on a simple method of scrapbook paper and a glue stick!
3. Make a list of things you want to do this summer - cut them out in a long triangle.
4. I glued the cut pieces into a circle, leaving room if I thought of something to add.
5. The spinner is simply three pieces of paper glued together - you can use cardstock too, but I didn't have any.
6. I punched a hole in the middle of the board and at the end of the pointer.
7. I found the metal flowers in my scrapbook stuff. One is a flower bradletz (I think they're called that) and the other is a flat metal flower with a hole in the middle. I pushed the bradletz through the metal hole, leaving a space between the metal flower and the bratletz.
8. Glue the back side of the bratletz with stick glue or a glue gun.

And SPIN!

GoodMail!

Jill, thank you so much for our in person gift! I love the stationary and can't wait to use it. Also, the personalized cards are so sweet - it was a nice surprise to have it waiting for me when we returned home. Elizabeth, thank you for your thoughtful card!

Thanks for your encouragement on my running...It is coming along. I don't know that I "feel" like a runner yet but my little ellie tells me my legs are getting puffier (muscles) so that is good, right? :)

oh and cute belts!!
love your new header...

Awesome ideas, both the belts and spinner. If I knew how to crochet, I'd definately copy that for Aimee, but I guess I'll just have to use this as motivation to learn, eh? But the spinner I will definately be copying. Great idea.

Those belts and flowers are darling, you've got skills!

I like your activity/spinner idea, I just don't like the idea of having to go do something. I should create something like that so that on days when we need an activity we could pull it out. You're a genius.

So cute! Too bad I'm not the least bit talented in the sewing department. I checked out your crocheting blog, and oh my, so cute, did I already say that? :)
I think the wheel is a great idea. Sometimes in the midst of boredom you can't think of all those good ideas you had when you were busy.
