Happy Little Adventures!

This is the start of a new day, since I've scrapped my old glasses that I couldn't really see out of anyway, and replaced them with these gold rimmed glasses. I can't see without contacts or glasses, but have used contacts to the point of irritating my eyes. What do you think?!

First stop, board walk of the St. Lawrence River. Hotel Frontenac in background.

I am going to start calling our little family excursions, road trips, and other outings as our Happy Little Adventures. Why not? Although these adventures are filled with moments of whining and impatience, the reason we do them is because we enjoy them as a family - it's fun, and our girls love to see new things.
Team members of this weekend's Happy Little Adventure was: Me, Craig, the girls, and my dad and my mom. Destination was Quebec City, Quebec. Home of the only entirely walled city in North America. It's three hours north of Montreal on a two lane freeway, and not nearly close to the traffic we experience going into the states.

We arrived around 12:30 and parked down by the river in a parking structure. We headed first to the river boardwalk. They are doing some excavating at the Chateau Frontinac a very large beautifully built old hotel that is in the center of old town Quebec. Took some pictures including the one above of me and mum - in the SPT spirit!

We then headed to eat at a great Breton crepe place. Guess how long we had to wait to eat our food - 60 minutes! And guess how long it took us to get out of the restaurant - 90 minutes! It was long, and I can almost say it was worth it - but next time we will definitely eat somewhere else. If you go and there's no line - definitely worth it! We walked around old time but ended up doing this:

It was a lot of fun, as I don't recall ever doing a carriage ride before, unless it's been called a "Hay ride!" The man who took us was very funny and spoke a great deal about how great Quebec is compared with America. We let him, because it was all in good fun.

It started to rain while we were in the carriage!

Nini feeding the horse after the ride. She originally would have nothing to do with it, but mustered enough courage to reach this carrot out to the horse! Good for you Nini!

Petite Champlain is the lower section of old Quebec, we didn't have time to enjoy the street, but ran down the steps to take this picture. Will have to hit it next time!

A big thank you goes out to Scribbit who mentioned me and my old time friend Heffalump (who happens to be my partner in crime on #63 on my 100 list) Also, I was tagged by cutie Maria the other day which I really appreciate.

Your Happy Little Adventure looks like fun. I have never been to Canada but it looks beautiful and very "old world". I also think that picture of the street is way cool.

Quebec City looks like such a great place! I'm loving the pictures, and those glasses are very, very cool! I am guilty of doiung the same thing - wearing contacts to the point of irritation!

So fun to read your list! Love the Office and can hardly wait for it to start up again!!! Oh, and chocolate is definitely a FOOD!!!!

I can't think WHY I like your glasses, but I do like them. Do the girls take you more seriously with your glasses on? Do you appear sterner? :-D

Good on you for doing the SPT-style photo with your mum!

I had to give up on contacts last year. I can wear the once a day for a couple hours while I go swimming once in awhile but that is it.
What a beautiful city Quebec is. What a great adventure.

Lovely photos. I really like your glasses and think they look great on you. I am beginning to rethink eye surgery...my eyes have been getting worse lately I hate it.

I too could rewatch Harry Potter movies, we just watched one of them the other day with the kids.

What a fun trip to Quebec, I like your title for the trip "Happy Little Adventures". Having traveled A LOT with our kids I know exactly what you mean about whining and impatience (although in our car it's kids whining and ME impatience), but I have to say that it is worth it. Our whole family has great memories not only of places but of time with each other. I was glad to find you on my blog! I hadn't been on for a while (moving is a little time consuming-as you well know) but I am started up again and was so happy that we connected through Laura. Hope all is well, your girls have sure grown, and I'll be keeping in touch!

The first thing I thought when I looked at this post was how your hair is just the perfect color of blond, and then when I read the words to go with the picture, I wondered if the gold rims are accentuating your beautiful hair and that's why I noticed it? Old Quebec City looks like so much fun to visit. And good for Nini for feeding the horse a carrot! Horses are such big animals.
