The sign above I found while traveling through the town of Jeffersonville, VT. I thought it fitting that the only reason we found this sign was by chance - a wrong turn, a right when we should have turned left. I will admit to anyone that I am a sign reader, an ad junkie who judges and criticise ads and signage. I find it relaxing on long road trips to critique advertising, changing ads in my mind if I don't like them, or complementing a store or large company for their advertising and marketing brilliance. This sign, although lacking polish, was very clever, if not brilliant. After all, I did make Craig turn around so I could get out and take a picture of the sign. Luckily, no one was home.
We are back in action in Montreal, but with an empty fridge, swimming lessons, summer school, adoption paperwork, goodmail goals, and other appointments tomorrow - my vacation is officially over! I am currently downloading all our pictures to smug mug, and as most of you know, it takes some time. I hope our vacation post is up by tomorrow.
Do you critique ads?
What do you do on road trips to pass time?
What do you think of this sign?

That's a RAD sign! I found myself doing the same thing, just on our Sunday drive this evening, with billboards! Funny!:)
Isn't it funny how quickly life comes back at us when we get home from Vacation?
Oh, and $10/hr for 2 kids!!!! Holy cow! That's insane! Good luck with getting back into the swing of things! :)
Welcome back! Doesn't it seem like we get thrown right back into the daily routine way to fast! I love the sign! When we travel I find myself always commenting on the trees, flowers, rocks, lakes, mountains, anything that I see Heavely Father created. I must have gotten this from my grandma. The funny thing about me doing this, is nobody is listening! I think I have done it for so long that everyone tunes me out! :)
mansfield Park is the only Austen I haven't read.
I love the sign. I like independant little businesses like that.
Welcome back home. I love going on Vacation. But it is so nice to be back home.
I hope you are able to get everything done this week.
Have a geat day.:)
i'm a critiquer, definitely. here in the south, i usually have heartburn over hand-painted signs that say things like, "boiled p-nuts" and "yard sail."
Hope you get back into the swing of things soon, and fill that fridge!
I like the muted colours of that sign. Usually I don't like blue and yellow, as they're so done-to-death in corporate logos, but these colours are a lot softer.
I'm with you on weighing up the pros and cons of advertising and signage. I was in Waterstones bookshop last week and spotted a typo in their signage in the lift! Outrageous! In a bookshop too! Tsk!
Ooh, Lelly, have you read Lynne Truss' 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves'?
'The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation'.
I hate things like "Cup's and Saucer's" - arrggh!
Maybe so many people have gotten lost around that sign and they decided to put it up. Too funny. Good luck getting back into the post vacation groove!
i always see advertising and think, oh if you would just change that font it would look so much better.
I would want to send that picture in to a magazine that publishes sign pics, such as Southern Living. I always THINK of doing that, but never end up DOING!
