Tagged: Eight things about my marriage.

Did you ever wonder why I call my blog "she-called-me"? When I created this blog I must have been in a moment of creative fury! My blog title worked when I created it, however, I now wish I would have named it more appropriately "A Happy Heart". I named my blog after one of the events below, be the first two bloggers to name what that event was, and you'll win five crochet flowers - just name the colors you want and they're yours! This post is in response to a tag I received from Scribbit!

Where did you meet your husband?

When Craig returned from his mission, his bishop told him that there would be no callings or responsibilities in his home ward, and therefore, was "requested" to attend the singles branch in our area (which both Sydney and Heffalump attended!) I had decided for family reasons to stay home from Rick's College the next year and attend work and go to school from home. I had been in the singles ward for a couple months before Craig was "asked" to attend. I remember when I saw him for the first time, there was something about him that set him apart from any of the other men in the singles branch.

What was the first thing you said to your husband?
Our callings put us together by phone, he worked as the executive secretary and I in the relief society, so we communicated a couple times by phone. But the first time, we met officially was on a week night at the church. I was babysitting a young girl at the time, and had to bring her to my meeting with the bishop. Craig was there doing business and when we passed the bishop introduced us, I found out later that he thought the girl was mine. The first time we actually spoke other than an introduction, was about a week later. We were both waiting for a meeting to start and started talking. I knew he spoke Vietnamese, so I thought I'd impress him with a phrase I knew. He was quite impressed that I knew the phrase, and we both laughed when he told me what it meant. What was it? The phrase I muttered in Vietnamese when translated meant "Sir, you are a western chicken." We got a laugh out of it, and that's when he taught me how to say "bird crap" in Vietnamese. Maybe a couple of other things too!

Where was the first kiss? First date?
I'll start with the first date- we had been together in the ward for about four months and had talked frequently, but he never asked me out. I'm sure I put some hints out there, but still no response. So I took matters into my own hands and called him on the phone on January 18, 1993 and asked him if he would like to go to the movies to see Aladdin. I was trying to be nonchalant about it saying that I had to take my brother and his date to the movies anyway. He said yes and we met at the movie theatre - he insisted on paying for me. How could I not be impressed by this? He later confessed that he had been wanting to ask me out for a long time, but hadn't gotten the courage to - ahhh! I'll spare you our corny first kiss details, but say that it was after the third date that we finally kissed!

Did you have a long or short courtship/engagement?
Our courtship started on the 18th of January and March 27 he asked me to marry him. We were married on June 26 of that same year. All told - it took him 70 days to ask me to marry him and 90 more days to get married. When it's right - it's right :)

Where did you get engaged?

Craig asked me to marry him the night of a singles branch activity to the beach to go whale watching. It was a fun trip out to the beach and fun getting on the boat, but the actual boat ride was horrible. Craig and I both got sick! He told me later that he had my engagement ring in his pocket the entire time and was planning on asking me on the boat. But changed his mind, after we both got sick. He asked me later that night after we had all recovered.

Where did you get married?
We were married in Portland Oregon Temple. It was a special place to me, since I was their at the dedication and was able to help with the other youth during the dedication and be apart of the ceremony with President Hinckley in the celestial room. I was 16 at the time, and what a wonderful experience it was for me.

How did the reception go?
We had two receptions, one in Vancouver, WA and one in Craig's hometown of Klammath Falls OR. We had a fun time at both, however, the one in Klammath Falls I remember more, because we had a fiddle band that played for us! It was a lot of fun!

How was the honeymoon?
Craig worked for Horizon Airlines, so we flew stand-by up to the Puget Sound area and then to Victoria Island to some cute little Bungalows. We had a great time, although, we seemed to be fascinated with ducks. Because when we returned from the honeymoon and had the pictures developed, 3/4 of the photos were of ducks. Strange, we must have been too busy to take pictures of anything else!

I tag: Lauralee, Mique, Marie (you're it!), Holly, and Jenny!

Are you happy with your blog name?
If you could change it, what would you call it?

She-called-me, because you called him to ask him out?
I had to ask D out the first time too. He was trying hard not to get attached to anyone because he was leaving for BYU in a few months.

At least whenever you see ducks maybe you're reminded of your honeymoon? :)

Oh - blog name. One of the major reason it took me a long time to get a blog going was I had no idea what to call it. My sister, Barb, and my two blogging sister-in-laws, Kelly and Ortensia, had such creative, cool names for their blogs that I wanted to get something good before I started. I ended up getting completely stuck, not able to think of a single thing, and then said 'forget what they've done, I just want to be me!' and the blog title was born.

It's funny you mention your blog name in this post, as only last night I was looking at my blog and thinking I'll change the links to other people's blog's to the NAME of their BLOG, rather than the person's name - precisely because, as you say, it takes a lot of thinking to come up with a name so I want to honour the thinking behind that effort!

I shall make those changes NOW, Michelle!

Love the ducks story, you nutters!
I thought you married Craig because he's got a scrummy, scrummy cutey-wooty smiley face! (or is it just me? *blush*)

surprisingly, i would not change my blog name. i came up with it while running - my best ideas come while my feet are moving.
and i always love to change things and see if i can make them better and this it feels good to make a choice and stick with it... oh ya and marrying my husband that was a good choice too.
