5 perfect reasons!

Today, I am working on the girls invitations to their birthday party on Friday. It's nice to see my almost six years of layout and design experience when I was working is coming in handy. I know it's late, but most everybody that we want to come, has already been invited! I'll give you more details about it as I finish up the preparations.

We had a wonderful time at Acorn Cottage! I actually finished Coastliner's a book I've had on my sidebar forever, but took it off because I was embarrassed about how long it was taking me to read it! We watched movies, went into Lake Placid for some shopping, ate at an old-fashioned A&W, had camp fires, climbed trees, peeped, and relaxed! Here are five things that made it perfect:

1. Quality time. Seeing the girls spending good quality time with Craig. Here they are making this tire swing to put on one of the many awesome climbing trees in on the property. I so remember the swing my parents made for us on our farm growing up. My favorite part of it was pushing of the tree spinning thought the air and pushing off the other side of the tree. I so wish I had a picture of it. Hopeful this will be a great memory for the girls and as not to let them forget I recorded the event well!

2. Peeping. When you find this many colors in nature, you can't help but be glad. Sunday was an absolute awesome day for peeping, so beautiful. This drive in on 9N in upstate NY up toward Lake Placid. If you are interested in visiting this area, let me know we can give you some good pointers! For more photos of the landscape click here!

3. Winning. You can't ignore the euphoria when you win a game! In 1993, on our wedding day, we received the game boggle as a wedding present. It's probably been one of the most memorable gifts we've received, as it's been years of enjoyment. We just purchased a second one, with the quieter box, for the cabin. The draw back to this game for me, has been my inability to win it! However, you'll be happy to know that the last two times we've played the game, I've won it - and not by a small margin! I won't admit that I've wondered if he's letting me win, but I know Craig, he likes to win too. And who's to say, that improvement hasn't finally helped me win! Notice the piece of paper he used with the word "lowest" on it, maybe he should help that whole karma thing out and have used a different paper to write on!

Roasting Pink Marshmallows!

4. Camp fires. I so love sitting by the fire. The smoke seems to always follow me, but I relate that to the old saying that "smoke following beauty". All the same, there is something very cozy about sitting around a camp fire and talking with family. Even when it rained on Monday, we still managed to put together a good little fire to sit by. I should say that Craig did - I watched!

5. Climbing trees. I used to love to climb trees. Are you a tree climber? My girls are little monkeys, especially Nini. Craig cut some long dead branches down on two trees to allow the girls better access and better climbing. He also put up a rope with knots in it to let the girls climb up the tree with it. And he made a 2nd swing from a rope and stick. The girls have played so well at the cabin, that I am going to convince Craig to use our back yard tree for a swing. We don't have a swing set or playground because it would be too hard to move back.

The new Smugmug uploader is so great! Here are the rest of the photos from our trip!

I love, love all those beautiful trees. Fall is so pretty. Too bad we have to go out of town to appreciate it. Just about time to visit Oak Glen. Did you & your family ever go there when you lived in CA?

Getting away from home makes it so much easier to *play* as a family! Looks like a perfect long weekend.

Your weekend looked so blissful and very colorful with all of that foliage. I love that you and Craig have played that game for so long. Doug and I used to play card games ALL the time. Good times.

You've really got stuck in from the word go! I can see you all making the most of every moment at the cottage. Brilliant. I love that it's somewhere where you can combine parenting, being a family and being a couple. It's such a good thing to have done.

Lovely pics too!
