The perfect place to wait.

This is a common scene is our house for two reasons. One, it's the best place to be when you're on the look out for daddy. My piano is placed right in front of the front window, and the girls climb behind the piano and sit on the extended window sill. The other reason they sit up hear is to either listen to me play or wait until I am done. When they were babies, I would take them and place them beside me when I played. I remember vividly playing Mozart's Rondo Capricio "Rage over a lost Penny", and Nika freaked. She was sitting in one of those sit and roll things. She kept pushing her legs straight and putting her hands out and flapping them. It's hard to explain, but she loved this song. We call it Nini's song. Of course, Cici's name was taken staight from Beethoven's Fur Elise.

I wanted them to understand that the piano is fun, and very very important to me. I was adamant that they couldn't bang on the piano or play with the keys while I was playing. I needed something to help release the frustration of twins. They learned quickly that piano time is mommy time. They would crawl underneath my feet, but gave me space to play. I let them at any other time play the piano, or other instruments. This day of the picture I had to write transition measures from one hymn to the next. The choir at church is singing two hymns one in A Major and the other in F Major. Anyway, it was nice using that part of my brain for once. Check out this cute picture of when they were little:

Ahhh! So cute!

Those will be some favorite memories for the girls when they get older...sitting with Mom at the piano.
I bet you have a ton of pictures of the 2 of them at the piano. That would be a cute way of documenting their growth and age.

I did a double-take at your music book. My eyes popped a little. (in a good way) YOU CAN PLAY THAT??? Wow. I'm in awe.

And who WOULDN'T freak out to Mozart? I can't hold still when I hear any Mozart piece. I love that your baby started to jig!

My mother put me in piano lessons when I was little. She put all of us in, actually. But the boys were allowed to quit. Barb and I were not allowed to quit. Barb is very talented at the piano. I am not.

I do want to have my children in music lessons when they get a little older though.

Very cute picture of the twins!

This reminds me that I've been listening all week to Carly Simon's 'Two Little Sisters' song. Do you know it? The words are just lovely, but the piano bit is sweet too. I was listening to it, wishing I could play it.

But I can't play the piano. Nor do I own one. So that's that.

What a wealth of things to ponder about your little piano!
